TAMIL NADU ASTEROID SEARCH CAMPAIGN

Real Data. Real Telescopes. Real Discoveries, From Tamil Nadu to the Solar System.

Students in Tamil Nadu Have Already Flagged 38 Potential Asteroids. Yours Could Be Next.

Run in partnership with the International Astronomical Search Collaboration (IASC), an initiative affiliated with NASA, the Tamil Nadu Asteroid Search Campaign puts real observational astronomy in students’ hands. Using actual data from the PANSTARRSTelescope, participants search for undiscovered asteroids, learning genuine citizen-science methodology used by professional researchers.

Real observational astronomy, in students hands.

The Tamil Nadu Asteroid Search Campaign is run in partnership with the International Astronomical Search Collaboration (IASC), an initiative affiliated with NASA. Students work with actual observational data from the PANSTARRS Telescope — not simulations, not textbook diagrams.

Guided by genuine citizen-science methodology, participants learn to detect, measure and report potential asteroids exactly the way professional researchers do. This is a rare opportunity for students to contribute to an active area of space research — and for institutions to offer a programme with real international credibility.

Real science, not a simulation.

✦ Direct partnership with IASC (NASA-Partnered).

✦ Genuine international research credibility.

✦ Uses real PANSTARRS Telescope observational data, not simulated exercises

✦ Participants engage in authentic citizen-science research, not a classroom demonstration

✦ A rare opportunity for students to contribute to an active area of space research.

Cohort-based programme; first cohort fully in-person, second cohort hybrid. Application opens every year in October.
